FAQ

What is the difference between 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?

3D ultrasound creates still, three-dimensional images of your baby, showing detailed features.

4D/HD ultrasound adds real-time motion, letting you see your baby moving, yawning, or stretching, often with sharper, clearer images.

What is your facility like?

Relax and enjoy your ultrasound in our family-friendly space. Loved ones are welcome, and our 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD technology captures every precious moment. Bring unlimited guests!

Is 3D and 4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?

Yes! 3D and 4D ultrasounds are safe when done by trained professionals. Doctors, including ACOG, confirm there are no known risks to you or your baby.

Do you accept insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance because this is an elective procedure.

When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?

The timing depends on what you’d like to see! Many parents enjoy 2 or 3 visits:

14–26 weeks – see your baby as a whole.

25–34 weeks – get a more detailed view of your baby’s face.

28–32 weeks is ideal for defined facial features as your baby develops more fat. After 34 weeks, space is limited, making images harder, but we’ve had successful scans up to 39 weeks. Every baby is unique!

How good are you at determining the sex of the baby?

We determine your baby’s gender at 14 weeks through ultrasound, with very high accuracy. If the gender isn’t visible, we offer a free return weekday scan within 14 days, usually just due to the baby’s position.

How can I be sure to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?

Most doctors recommend staying well hydrated during pregnancy to keep amniotic fluid clear and full. Image quality can still vary due to factors like baby’s position, mom’s body type, and amniotic fluid levels, which are sometimes beyond our control.

What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?

Hydrate well drink at least 68 oz. of water daily for 3 days before your visit.

Eat a light snack about 15-20 minutes prior to your appointment.

How long is the 3D/4D ultrasound session?

Depending on the ultrasound package that you select, your session will last between 10 and 25 minutes. However, plan on spending 30 minutes to an hour at our studio so that we can send you home with memories to last a life time. It is best to arrive a few minutes early to fill out our paperwork.

Are family and friends welcome to join?

We encourage friends and family to share this special moment! Children are welcome, and we provide toys and books to keep them entertained.

At our Clarksville, TN location, the room comfortably seats 10+ people, with a 100-inch screen so everyone can see the ultrasound clearly. You are welcome to bring as many guests as you want!

How can I pay for the ultrasound?

We accept major credit/debit cards, cash, Google Pay, and Apple Pay for your convenience.

When do I get my 3D/4D HD pictures and videos?

You will receive your images within 1 hour after your session ends.

Will my doctor be contacted about the 3D/4D HD ultrasound?

We do not contact your doctor prior to the scan since this is an elective procedure. If we do see something wrong during the scan, we contact your doctor and send her the report. We do require however that you currently are under prenatal care and if you have any concerns, you should ask your doctor. Ultrasound technicians in general cannot make a diagnosis.

Will I always get great images of my baby?

Most of the time we are able to get great images, but not always. Sometimes if the baby is looking face down toward mom’s spine we are unable to get images, or if the baby is laying against the placenta. Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother’s condition. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen.

What will determine quality of the images?

Your baby’s position is the main factor in image quality. Some babies are ready for perfect shots, while others may face the placenta, wall, or cover their face with hands and feet.

We try to encourage movement during your scan. Sometimes a little juice or a small snack can help your baby shift for better images.

What can I do to improve the images of my ultrasound?

Drink at least 64 oz of water daily for 3 days before your appointment. Proper hydration helps improve amniotic fluid, giving you clearer, sharper ultrasound images of your baby.

What if we are not able to get images?

At Baby Bump, our top priority is capturing the best images of your baby and ensuring your complete satisfaction. We use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, but some factors are beyond our control, including:

  • Placenta location

  • Amount and clarity of amniotic fluid

  • Baby’s position

  • Overall fetal environment

If we cannot determine your baby’s gender or capture 3D/4D HD images during your appointment, we’ll happily reschedule a free return visit within 14 days depending on purchase package.

What if my baby is breech?

A breech baby has its head at the top of the uterus and feet down. If you know your baby is breech before your 3D/4D ultrasound, we recommend rescheduling a few weeks later to allow time for turning.

Good images are possible with breech babies, but are more likely when the baby is head down. Even if your baby remains breech, a 3D/4D HD ultrasound can still capture clear images, especially with ample amniotic fluid.

If I am overweight will I be able to get clear ultrasound images?

Being overweight does not prevent you from having a 4D elective ultrasound. We recommend waiting until after 30 weeks so your baby has more facial fat for clearer images.

Clear images may require a high level of amniotic fluid, so following our hydration guidelines in the weeks leading up to your appointment will help ensure great results!

Why are ultrasounds performed?

  • Verify dates and growth
  • Identify hydramnios or oligohydramnios – (excessive or reduced levels of amniotic fluid)

Third Trimester:

  • Identify placenta location
  • Observe fetal presentation
  • Observe fetal movements
  • Check fetal growth
  • Identify uterine and pelvic abnormalities of the mother
